Vietnam's textile exports reached $9.51 billion in the first four months of the year, up 9 percent from a year earlier, the Commerce and Industry News reported May 5. Exports of fiber and yarn reached $1.64 billion, an increase of 43.4 percent, while exports of textile and leather footwear raw and auxiliary materials reached $642 million, an increase of 14.1 percent.
Vietnam's textile industry showed a more positive signal in the first four months of the year compared with the same period last year, against the backdrop of the gradual recovery of some of Vietnam's major export markets and the good use of signed and effective free trade agreements, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said. In April, Vietnam's textile manufacturing index rose 2.7 percent from a month earlier, up 17.3 percent from a year earlier, while the garment manufacturing industry rose 3.9 percent from a month earlier, up 29.4 percent from a year earlier. Overall, in the first four months of the year, the textile production index rose 7.8 percent from a year earlier, the clothing manufacturing industry increased 9.5 percent, and leather and related products increased 11 percent.
Some of the products in the industry have achieved good growth, such as 201 million square metres of fabric made from natural fibers, an increase of 10.1 per cent over the same period last year ;378.3 million square metres of textiles made from synthetic and man-made fibers, an increase of 6.4 per cent over the same period last year ;1.4942 billion pieces of casual clothing, an increase of 8.9 per cent; and 94.1 million pairs of footwear, an increase of 13.3 per cent.
