Before May, China's clothing export full analysis

(Summary description)

From January to May 2021, the export of Chinese clothing (including clothing accessories, the same below) was USD 58.49 billion, up 48.2% year on year, or 14.2% from the same period in 2019. In the month of May, clothing exports were $ 12.59 billion, up 37.6% year on year, 3.4% from May 2019, and significantly slower compared to April.
The epidemic prevention materials such as medical protective clothing and medical gloves are all classified under the clothing category, and the export change trend has a certain impact on the clothing export. In the first five months of this year, China's medical protective clothing export was $ 1.86 billion, down 44.7% year on year, medical gloves export $ 5.48 billion, a growth of 370.1% year on year in total, accounting for 12.5% of the total clothing exports. If epidemic prevention materials are excluded, China's conventional clothing exports were USD 51.15 billion, up 46.4% year on year, and only 2.8% from the same period in 2019
Kit exports increased over 60% From January to May, knitwear exports were US $ 23.16 billion, up 60.6% year-on-year, or 14.8% from the same period in 2019. In May, knitwear increased by nearly 90%, mainly because of the backflow orders caused by the overseas epidemic. Among them, the export of cotton, chemical fiber and wool knitting clothing increased greatly, increasing by 63.6%, 58.7% and 75.2% respectively. Silk knitwear saw a small increase of 26.9%.
Weaving clothing exports grew relatively low From January to May, woven clothing exports were $ 22.38 billion, up 25.4%, well below knitting clothing growth, basically flat compared with the same period in 20 19. Among them, cotton and chemical fiber fabrics increased by 39.8% and 21.5% respectively; wool and silk fabrics decreased by 13.8% and 24% respectively. The main reason for the small increase in woven clothing export is that the export of medical protective clothing (classified as chemical fiber woven clothing) fell nearly 90% year on year in May, resulting in the export of chemical fiber woven clothing falling 16.4% year on year in the same month in May. If medical protective clothing is excluded, exports of conventional woven clothing increased 47.1% year on year, but still fell 5% compared to the same period in 2019.
